I have learned so much about what it’s like to live in a border city. I was what is known as a “daily crosser”. I would cross every day to thetU.S., and return at nightnback home to Tijuana. I most certainly wasn’t a rarity. Thousands of people, Americans, cross daily because of the housing crisis in California. When you can either pay approximately $2,000 a month for a 1 bedroom apartment in or near San Diego. Or you can choose to only pay approximately $400-$500 for an actual house in Mexico. I’m not talking about a dump either.
So the obvious choice for those who don’t have, or choose not to spend that amount of money is beautiful Mexico!
Tijuana specifically has two very different sides. There is Playas de Tijuana which is basically beach front property. Then there is down town Tijuana. Infamous for having the largest “legalized” prostitution district in the world. Millions of San Diego used to cross the border every weekend to either go clubbing, or see “the girls”. It’s still a very happening place, but due to the U.S. forcing Mexico to require passports, a lot less people cross now.
